China launched two high-resolution optical remote sensing satellites into a preset orbit from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China

The two commercial satellites, Jilin-1 Video 07 and 08, were independently developed by Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co. Ltd., and will provide remote sensing data and products  in conjunction with the eight previously launched Jilin-1 satellites.

In October 2015, four Jilin-1 commercial satellites were sent into space. In January 2017, Jilin-1 Video 03 was launched, and Jilin-1 Video 04, 05 and 06 were put into predetermined orbits in November last year.

Friday marked the fourth launch for the Jilin-1 satellite family, and the satellites were carried by a Long March-11 rocket. This was the 264th mission of the Long March rocket series.

It was also the 100th aerospace launch mission carried out by the Jiuquan center. Established in 1958, the center was China's first comprehensive space launch center and only manned space launch center.

The Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival   is an annual winter festival that takes place with a theme in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China,

it is the largest ice and snow festival in the world.

At first participants in the festival were mainly Chinese, however it has since become an international festival and competition.

The festival includes the world's biggest ice sculptures

Officially, the festival starts on January 5 and lasts one month.

The annual event, held in the capital of Heilongjiang Province, is now in its 33rd year.

The festival is made up of several themed zones.

The main attraction is the Harbin Ice and Snow World, which covers more than 750,000 square meters and features up to 180,000 cubic meters of ice.

 The ice park is spread across 197-acre land. More than 10000 workers were engaged in building the ice sculptures.

In 2017, the ice festival had eighteen million visitors despite -30 degrees temperature. It fetched 28.7 billion yuan tourism revenue for Harbin.

Harbin is located in Northeast China and receives cold winter wind from Siberia.

UN chief Antonio Guterres has appointed former senior US government official Henrietta H Fore as the new executive director of UNICEF,

Fore has worked on economic development, education and health, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief for the most vulnerable in the international and developing world.

The treaty, which came into force on March 1, 1999, prohibits the use, stockpiling, production and transfer of antipersonnel mines.

World Health Organization has declared Gabon a "polio-free country",

there was a  lack of new reported or suspected cases in the central African country.

Polio is a highly-infectious viral disease which mainly affects young children and can result in permanent paralysis. There is no cure and it can only be prevented through immunisation.

Cases of polio have decreased by 99 percent since 1988, when polio was endemic in 125 countries and 350,000 cases were recorded worldwide.

Gabon, a country along the Atlantic coast of Central Africa, has significant areas of protected parkland.

The first polio vaccine was the inactivated polio vaccine.

 It was developed by Jonas Salk and came into use in 1955.


Polio vaccines are vaccines used to prevent poliomyelitis (polio).

There are two types: one that uses inactivated poliovirus and is given by injection (IPV), and one that uses weakened poliovirus and is given by mouth (OPV)



 The oral polio vaccine was developed by Albert Sabin and came into commercial use in 1961

Disney will  buy 21st Century Fox's movie studio and regional sports networks, cable channels FX and National Geographic.

Disney will also get Fox's stakes in Hulu and European pay-TV provider Sky

The deal has a total value of approximately $66.1 billion, with Disney assuming $13.7 billion of Fox's net debt.

Singapore's first electric car-sharing service was officially launched with 80 cars and 32 charging stations

BlueSG, a subsidiary of France's Bollore Group, started the service

BlueSG plans to increase the number of its cars to 100 by the end of the year, and is targeting 1,000 cars and 2,000 charging points by 2020

Bollore operates similar electric vehicle sharing plans in other cities, including Paris, Bordeaux and Lyon in France, Indianapolis and Los Angeles in the United States and Torino in Italy.

Bolloré is a French transportation company headquartered in Puteaux, on the western outskirts of Paris, France. The company, a paper–energy–plantations–logistics conglomerate, employs 28,000 people around the world.
