The International Year of Soils, 2015 (IYS 2015) was declared by the Sixty-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly on December 20th, 2013 after recognizing December 5th as World Soil Day.
In December 2013 the UN General Assembly designated 5 December 2014 as the first official World Soil Day.
It aims to communicate messages on the importance of soil quality for food security, healthy ecosystems and human well-being.
The Theme for this year Soil Day is ‘Caring for the Planet starts from the Ground’.
