International Dance Day

International Dance Day

International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO.

The event takes place every year on 29th April, the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.

In 1982, the Dance Committee of International Theatre Institute founded International Dance Day.

The theme for 2019 is Dance and Spirituality.

London Marathon 2019

Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge ran the second fastest marathon in history to win the London Marathon for a fourth time as Britain's Mo Farah finished fifth.

Kipchoge, 34, who broke the world record in Berlin last year, triumphed in two hours two minutes 38 seconds.

Farah finished three minutes one second behind Kipchoge, while fellow Briton Callum Hawkins was 10th.

Kenya's Brigid Kosgei, 25, became the youngest female London winner, with Britain's Charlotte Purdue 10th.

Ethiopia's Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihun finished second and third respectively behind Kipchoge, who finished 59 seconds shy of his world record of 2:01:39.

Earlier, American Daniel Romanchuk and Switzerland's Manuela Schar won the men's and women's elite wheelchair races.

More than 40,000 runners,   took part in the marathon

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a development strategy adopted by the Chinese government involving infrastructure development and investments in 152 countries and international organizations in Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa

 "Belt" refers to the overland routes for road and rail transportation, called "the Silk Road Economic Belt"; whereas "road" refers to the sea routes, or the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road

The second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation is being held in Beijing from April 25 to 27, and leaders including heads of state and government from nearly 40 countries will attend the forum's roundtable meeting.


Leaders from 37 countries have come to Beijing for the three-day forum, with officials from scores of other nations in attendance.

The first Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, or BRFIC was held on May 14–15, 2017 in Beijing, and drew 29 foreign heads of state and government and representatives from more than 130 countries and 70 international organizations

The 29th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) is all set to receive more than 1000 exhibitors from 50 countries on Wednesday.

India has been nominated as the “Guest of Honour” country at the Book Fair.

The Fair will be held in the UAE capital from 24th  to 30th April 2019.

 30 publishing houses from India will take part in the fair, along with leading Indian writers and authors, to highlight the shared cultural diversity between India and the UAE.

Books on the life and struggle of Mahatma Gandhi will be on display as a special focus as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations.

A special presentation shall be made by the Publications Division on the 100 volume series of the Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi in a bid to reach out to the international audience.

The annual fair is a major event in the publishing sector in the Middle East and North Africa and is a platform for local and international talent to present their work and communicate with the sector’s leaders and influencers.

The fair’s 29th edition will involve over 1,000 participants from more than 50 countries, who will showcase 500,000 books.

World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarm over a 300 percent increase in the case of measles globally in the first quarter of 2019 compared with last year.

 provisional data has indicated a a clear trend, with all regions of the world seeing outbreaks.

early trends for 2019 likely underestimated the severity of the outbreaks since only about one in 10 actual measles cases was reported.

So far this year, 170 countries have reported 112,163 measles cases to WHO.

At this time in 2018, 163 countries had reported 28,124 cases.

It also added that Africa has witnessed the most dramatic rise - up 700% which has weaker vaccination coverage than other regions.

Measles, an airborne infection causing fever, cough and rashes that can be deadly in rare cases - had been officially eliminated in many countries with advanced healthcare systems.

Indian badminton  players Lakshya Sen and Riya Mookerjee broke into the top-100 among Men’s and Women’s singles players in the latest World Badminton Rankings.

Making a jump of 28 places, Lakshya Sen is placed 76th.

Riya Mookerjee climbed up 19 spots to be placed 94th.

 In the women's singles rankings, P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal are static with Sindhu at sixth and Saina at ninth position.

Among men, B Sai Praneeth also moved up three places to 19th.

Kidambi Srikanth remains static and is the best placed Indian in the men's rankings at seventh.

He is followed by Sameer Verma (14th), H S Prannoy (24th), Subhankar Dey (43rd), Parupalli Kashyap (48th), Ajay Jayram (52nd) and Sourav Verma (53rd).

Japan's Kento Momota is leading the men's chart while Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying is topping the women's singles list.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah have retained top positions in the latest ICC ODI rankings.

Kohli remained at the number one spot in the list of batsmen after he scored 310 runs in the recently-concluded home series against Australia which India lost, 2-3. Rohit Sharma remained number two.

Kedar Jadhav's all-round effort helped him move up 11 places to a career-best 24th.

In the Bowlers' list, Bumrah is at the top, followed by New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult at the second spot.

The all-rounders' table continues to be headed by Afghanistan's Rashid Khan. No Indian figures in the top-five.

In the team rankings, India is second, behind leaders England.

British Parliament rejects Brexit deal for second time

British Parliament will vote on a new motion today to decide if the UK should leave the EU within the March 29 deadline without any deal in place.

 The British Prime Minister Theresa May made the statement last night soon after she suffered yet another massive Parliament defeat over Brexit.

MPs rejected May's withdrawal agreement by 149 votes, leaving the deadline for the deal hanging in the balance. Legislators in the House of Commons voted against the deal by 391 to 242.


EU ambassadors will meet in Brussels today to assess the vote, the bloc's contingency plans and to discuss whether to grant a delay to Brexit if London asks for one.

Neema, the Israel-based company is partnering with the Marshall Islands government to develop the digital currency.

The final launch date will be decided by the Marshall Islands government’s Legal Tender Committee.
